 May 2013

 Dear Partner

Recession usually involves economy slowing down, companies downsizing, banks withholding and generally everybody hanging on tight to what they have.  The result is that the fear of the combined masses actually perpetuates the problem.  Fear has the ability to stop faith from working.

At the time that Jesus walked across the water to come to His disciples, Peter saw Him at a distance and asked Jesus to command him to come to Him.  We see in Matthew 14:29-31,

So He [Jesus] said, "Come." And when Peter had come down out of the boat, he walked on the water to go to Jesus. 30 But when he saw that the wind was boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink he cried out, saying, "Lord, save me!"  31 And immediately Jesus stretched out His hand and caught him, and said to him, "O you of little faith, why did you doubt?"

The word in the original text for “little” faith actual talks about a short duration… a short burst of faith.  In other words, the fear that Peter experienced stopped his faith from working.

We do not want the fear that surrounds us in society today to stop our faith in God from working.  It is our faith that is going to ensure the continuous provision and protection that God has promised in His Word. Remember Hebrews 11:1,

Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

So how do we keep our faith strong?  We renew our mind to the promises of God.  And we do that by continuously reading and listening to the Word of God. Paul tells us in Romans 10:17,

So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

Now, more than ever, we should be spending as much time in the Word as possible to strengthen our faith.  Regardless of what is happening around us, it is God’s plan for us to increase.  Psalms 115:14,

May the Lord give you increase more and more, you and your children.

The very words spoken to man at creation was Genesis 1:28,

Then God blessed them, and God said to them, "Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth."

God has increase on His mind!  According to Isaiah 9:7a His whole Kingdom is ever expanding,

Of the increase of His government and peace there will be no end

Jesus told Peter in Matthew 16:18,

“And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it.”

God is building and increasing.  And when you and I get involved with Him, we will begin to increase as well.  And God has built into us the capacity to increase.  As we study the Word of God we increase in wisdom and understanding.  As we fellowship with God we increase in favour.  As we tithe and sow our seeds we allow the preaching of the Gospel to increase and we increase financially.  As we pray and tell others about Jesus we are part of increasing the church of Jesus Christ.

As you sow your seed-faith this month, make a bold declaration, “Regardless of the economy and fear around me, I choose to believe God’s Word.  I decree favour and increase in my life so that I can continue being a part of increasing God’s Kingdom.”

This is the time for you to see increase in your life…step into it!

Janine and I love you dearly and pray for you every day.

Great Grace and Abounding Favour is yours!

Jesus is Lord,
