I am sure that all of us have sensed the excitement when we are in a faith-charged atmosphere of a great message. When the room is full of exuberant believers, we can shout loud “Amen”s to the promises of God. But, what happens the next day, or later in the week, when Sunday’s praises have grown quiet and all of a sudden we are faced with the extreme pressure of a problem situation. When everything in us is crying out, “What now…?” What is the next step? I believe there are 7 major things we can do to step into our victory.
We can draw insight from James 1:2-4,
My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, 3 knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. 4 But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing.
When I don’t know what to do, the first thing I want to do is,
1) Count it all joy
This might be the most difficult step to take, but it is so important. Instead of looking at the immediate problem and the threat that it imposes, think about how God is going to deliver you out of this. Imagine the end of this and the awesome solution that God has in store for you. You don’t have to know what the solution is… just imagine the problem solved and, on purpose, experience the joy now that you know you will once God has solved it. According to Nehemiah 8:10c,
…Do not sorrow, for the joy of the Lord is your strength.
2) Saturate yourself in the Word of God
Remember Romans 10:17,
So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
The ONLY way that faith enters our hearts is by hearing the Word of God. Now is not the time to sit around and fret. WE NEED FAITH! Take out your Bible and read it out loud… yes, with your voice so that you can hear it. Go to church services every time the doors open to listen to faith building Word of God. Listen to messages on CD or DVD… over and over again.
3) Speak the Word
But what does it say? "The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart" (that is, the word of faith which we preach)
The more you confess the Word of God you will notice your faith growing stronger and stronger. Take scriptures relating to your solution and turn them into first-person confessions… “By Jesus stripes I have been healed. Grace abounds towards me and I have all sufficiency in all things. My needs are met. Etc.”
4) Renew your mind
All of our worrying is happening in our minds… and it most definitely is not solving the problem. Take Paul’s advice in Romans 12:2,
And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.
He goes on to tell us in 2 Corinthians 10:4-5,
For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, 5 casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ
The best way to do this is to continue speaking the Word of God out loud. We have been designed so that our minds will be engaged with what we are speaking. If you find your mind drifting into worry, then begin to speak out according to point 3 above. This will keep your mind focussed on the Word of God, keeping you encouraged and joyful as the Word goes to work on your situation.
We will cover the other 3 steps in next month’s letter…
As you sow your seed-faith this month, declare, “I refuse to worry and fret. I choose the Word of God and His promises. I renew my mind to the Word of God and I continue to speak the word of faith. I count it all joy as I am complete, lacking nothing, in the Name of Jesus”
Now shout a shout of praise!
Janine and I continue to pray for you every day.
Jesus is Lord!
